In this economy it’s a common truth that we’re all trying to save money. One of the easiest ways to take a load off your pocket is to save on petrol. For this reason we’ve found the top two most fuel efficient cars of 2011. If you’re looking into getting a new car then choose one of these lean, mean and efficient machines.
2011 Nissan Leaf - This beauty is completely electric. It takes 30 minutes to charge it to 80% and 8 hours to charge completely. It will cost you about £350 per year to charge the car. It has a fuel equivalent of 99mpg.
2011 Chevrolet Volt - The Volt is not completely electric but its enough to make a massive difference. You can easily drive 35 miles on the charge functionality. Only once you’ve crossed that distance will you convert to your gas engine (which is handy just in case). It will cost you between £370 and £820 per year to run the car.
These fuel efficient motor vehicles are the perfect start to your New Year. Make sure that you spend time choosing your car as it could impact how much money you spend in the future.

Of course you know where to get your finance from but if you’re looking for budget, quality cars that won’t be too heavy on your pocket then we’ve got the perfect list. Here are our top budget-friendly cars that you can purchase in the UK.
1. Chevrolet Matiz
Our first option is slightly a bit more expensive. It goes for around £6000-£7,000 but that’s purchasing it brand new. Some of its key features are power assisted steering, airbags, central locking, electric front windows and ABS brakes. This five- door car is perfect choice if you can afford it.
2. Fiat Panda
It might have a bit of an odd shape but this car is still an animal. It’s extremely modern being initially released in 2003 and has a lot of space, if that’s what you’re interested in. It drives like a dream and you can choose between a 1.1 and a 1.3 liter Multijet engine.
3. Ford Ka
A Ford Ka might be a small car bit it’s definitely punched with features. It’s considered a city car and with a 1.3 liter petrol tank you will be set for a couple of days. There are tons of these babies lurking around as second hand so don’t purchase the first one you can get your hands on. Look for the one with the lowest mileage and the one which is the best equipped. It’s an absolute steal at less than 4000 pounds depending on where you purchase it from.
4. Volkswagen Lupo
This two door VW isn’t a family car but it’s perfect for students and recently employed business people. It comes with a 1.6 liter GTI engine which is quite surprising on such a small vehicle. While you can’t purchase this car brand new (they’ve been discontinued), you can purchase them second- hand for well under £4,000. |

Susie, my Toyota Tercel, has been travelling the streets since 1997. She must have the Eveready battery inside her engine, because she just keeps going and going. She has now accumulated over 300,000 miles. She is anxious to start for me every time I turn the key. Unfortunately, she will get tired one day, and it is for that reason I have been looking at reviews for the Toyota Corolla.
The Toyota Corolla is an upgrade of the Tercel, which is no longer manufactured. The Corolla is a 2010 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick. Some of the Corollas safety features include: anti-lock brakes, stability control, front seat side airbags, and full size curtain side airbags. The Corolla is a fuel economy car getting about 35 miles to the gallon. It is a good car for a family with small children; the back seat may be a bit cramped for older children, though.
The Corolla comes either as a coupe or four door sedan, with automatic or manual transmission - complete with a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty and a 5 year or 60,000 power-train warranty.
J.D. Power and Associates ranked the Corolla 8.5 out of 10 for reliability. If you are considering purchasing a 2010 Corolla, do not let the recent recall scare you away. A dealer is not going to sell you a faulty car. They will investigate the car before you purchase it. The advantage to you is that you should be able to purchase a Corolla at a fantastic saving.
Whether Susie gets tired tomorrow, or in another 300,000 miles, I will forever be a Toyota driver.

The Toyota Prius is a real gem in a, some would say, odd style - it is quite roomy in the 4 door hatchback, plenty of room for all your friends. It is a little low to the ground, especially if you travel in bumpy areas, but it rides quite comfortably with ample leg room for your back seat passengers.
The driver’s window has a nice feature in an auto up/down window switch which allows quick adjustment while driving and the fantastic reverse camera on an amply sized screen on your front dash allows for safer and easier reversing. Watch out, there does seem to be a blind spot along the corners of the rear of the car, I speak from experience having backed into a tree at least once!
For taking long trips or frequent short trips, the efficiency of this engine is unbeatable boasting an easy 45 to 50 mpg on average. Although, you may find yourself travelling more frequently due to the good nature of the car - so, no real fuel savings there!
The interior is treated to prevent stains and facilitate easy cleanup and let me just say, what a lifesaver. Spills, dogs, kids, you name it and this car can handle it.
If you are looking for an affordable car with exceptional drivability, easy on the wallet and family friendly then this is one you should consider. I have owned mine for several years and would not want anything else. I drive often and long distances, pack the car with dogs, family, friends and other cargo and I never worry that it won’t clean up well or if there will be enough space. Everyone rides comfortably and securely. An Absolute Wonderful Car |

Audi is becoming the manufacturer of effortless speed; unrivalled pace no matter what the weather or driver’s ability. The Audi R8 has been hailed as the everyman supercar - or as everyman as £81,000 can be. The RS5 is no different with a price tag of £57,480. This is the third RS model on sale from Audi despite them once saying it would only offer one RS at a time. But, as Audi quite rightly pointed out, customers want them so why not build them!
The RS5 delivers effortless, relaxed pace. It may not be the ultimate in driving finesse; it may not deliver that last ounce of fun which you’d get from a really focused uber-coupe; it may even be hugely expensive, but the RS5 doesn’t feel like a rip-off.
The Audi RS5 will be exactly what most people want, most of the time. It goes faster than anyone will ever need, it cruises around town brilliantly, it’s comfortable, well made, exclusive, looks good and grips well.
Effortless is great, but there’s no challenge and that’s where true satisfaction lies.
