Keeping Pets Safe When Travelling Inside a Car
As a parent-owner, you only want the best for your beloved animal. So when driving around town with your dog or your cat you should always make sure that they are safe and comfortable.
Here are a few suggestions on how you can do so.
Pre-trip preparations:
- Your beloved buddy will most likely get carsick, especially if it is his first time to ride a car. To make him get used to riding in a motorised vehicle, take a few short trips first before you venture into a journey that will take more than an hour. For example, when going to the supermarket, the park, or your friend's house, let your canine ride with you in your automobile, which is a positive and fun way to encourage him to be comfortable inside a moving object. Also, get him to become used to having restraints when inside your ride as early as possible for everyone's safety.
- Make sure to pack everything that your beloved animal will need. Two of the most basic things would be food and water. Take as much supplies as needed to ensure that your baby canine will not starve during the trip. Also, give him treats every now and then and take his favourite chew toy to keep him preoccupied while in transit.
Car Safety Measures:
- Always have a safety restraint when travelling with your pup. This is to prevent him from moving around the vehicle too much. Also, this is very useful in case you get into an accident, as a harness will prevent your beloved pet from flying out of your ride during a collision.
- Just like keeping a child safe inside an SUV or sedan, you may use a booster seat to let your pet see the view outside. But do not forget to keep him secured by strapping him in.
- It is also okay to put a barrier or to keep him inside a crate so he would not climb into the front seat. But again, he must be restrained for safety purposes.
- Even if your dog or cat is harnessed and all, but his head is hanging way out of the window, he can still be harmed. So, open your window a bit just so he can smell the fresh air outside.
- Never leave your animal companion inside your automotive, especially with all the windows closed, as he can suffocate in there. If you cannot help it, be sure to park your four-wheel drive under a tree or inside a covered car park, leaving a small opening for him to breathe.
Lastly, do not go on a trip without your furry buddy's collar and tag that has his name, your mobile phone number, and your home address, just in case he gets lost.
